A moment for the fallen heroes

Greetings all,

As I haven't been painting a great deal recently, I thought it would be a good opportunity to show off some of the models that I've painted in the past, and have been lost to the mists of time (by which I mean sold or repainted).

First up is my Death Guard army from way back in 2008-2011. This was my first fully painted army, and saw a good few battles throughout the excellent 5th edition of 40k. It was mostly made up of old school renegades and I was pretty proud of it at the time, although the paint job was quite simple. Ultimately this army was stripped with the intention to repaint, but ended up getting sold off.

The next few photos are what the army looked like after stripping and reassembling. I've still got a couple of these models, but most of them were sold.

Secondly I've got something that I've actually shown before, and that is my Undead/Necromantic team for Blood Bowl. I wasn't overly happy with these guys, but I do wish I'd repainted them, rather than selling them. I painted them around 2010 and added a few star players later, but ultimately they went on eBay. I *might* redo these guys someday, but I've got several other BB teams that I want to tackle first!

Next up is the army that immediately followed (and overlapped with) my Death Guard. This time I went for World Eaters. My biggest regret is selling off these guys, and I'd love to redo this army someday. They weren't all that good on the tabletop at the time, but they were lots of fun to paint, and there were some very cool models in there.

Lastly, a little abandoned project from the past: my Inquisitor (54mm) warband. I was interested in this when it first came out, looked at it again a few years later, but ultimately abandoned it as my gaming group went our separate ways over the years. I'm faintly interested in the Inq28 scene, but I don't think it's something I'll pick up again.

And that's it from me. Some big regrets there, with the moral of the story being to never sell painted models, no matter how much you need the money at the time! Some of this lot are on my mental list to replace at some future date, but time is my enemy at the moment, along with its evil sidekick, money...

The struggle continues... Oh yeh and some models.

Greetings all.

Well I haven't posted much recently, mainly because I haven't painted much recently. There's been a lot of real life stuff going on, and most of it not very fun... But enough about that, I suppose even these unpleasant times pass eventually.

In a vague attempt to stay motivated and avoid forgetting how to paint and whatever, I've picked up the brush now and then and finished off a couple old school Star Players for my Blood Bowl team:

Despite everything else going on, I've decided to stick with the BB league I joined, and I'm glad I did. I'm pretty rusty with BB, but it's going ok so far. One win and one loss, plus a few casualties caused, puts me at the upper-middle of the table, which I'm quite happy with for now (although I'm not sure it'll last!). I had intended to document my games with pictures etc, but I'm far too busy trying to remember the rules and try to think of vaguely clever plays! Might try and snap the odd pic from now on, just to have something to show.

The league did however prompt me to paint the Stars pictured above, as well as a couple of additional linemen:

I also painted rings around the base rims of the whole team to correspond with the 2nd edition style of colour coding. I went back and forth on this for ages, but it really does make it SO much easier to identify positionals during a game, particularly if your opponent isn't familiar with old school models, and it turns out that it's a pretty common BB practice for tournaments and whatnot.

Anyway, that's it from me for now. Here are a bunch of more recent pics I took of the team, now that they're "finished" (I'm already planning more additions):

First post of 2019: a very special Christmas present!

Greetings all,

It's taken me a while to get into gear in terms of blogging this year, and I'm definitely still in something of a slump hobby-wise. Despite that, I'm trying to push on and motivate myself to get stuff painted, play with it, and write a bit about it.

With that in mind, I thought I should probably do a now long overdue post about a very special Christmas present that I received from my good buddy Alex (from Lead Balloony). He's been working on a secret project recently, and sharpening his sculpting skills. This worked out well for me, as over Christmas he gifted me with a wonderful scratch built Spoilpox Scrivener (a type of Herald of Nurgle). This was more than I could ever have hoped for, especially given that it was his first entirely scratch built miniature. Some pre-painting pics stolen straight from Alex's blog (go there too!):

Needless to say, this lad jumped right to the top of the painting queue immediately. I went for a pretty simple scheme, partly to tie him in with all my other Nurgle troops, and partly because I was so scared of messing it up!

Alex has done a great job of tying him in with his Realm of Chaos mates, whilst also making him imposing enough to stand out. As you can imagine, I was over the moon!

That's it from me. In my efforts to drag my way out of my slump, I've signed up to a (fairly) local Blood Bowl league. Hopefully this will give me a bit of motivation to play and paint a few figs. I've also based all my remaining Familiars, so I can do a bit of work on them now and then. Should be a nice low-pressure project. Finally, Alex has managed to convince me to do a slow grow AoS skirmish campaign with him, in which we each take a force we're unfamiliar with and build it up over the year. It's very low pressure too, so that suits me fine. He's chosen Sylvaneth for me, and I picked Daughters of Khaine for him. Both very cool, and very different, so we'll see where that takes us.

Till next time.
