Back in the saddle

Greetings all,

Been a while again hasn't it? I've just had zero motivation and not much time to do any painting for a long while now. Well I decided to rectify that recently, sort of. In an effort to force myself to do a bit of painting and remember that I actually enjoy it, I picked up something very simple to ease myself back into it.

I've had these Plaguebearers sitting around for a long time now. They're actually my "leftovers" from doing my two big units of 30, and they were in various states of disrepair. Some were missing arms or weapons (or toes in one case...), but with a bit of ingenuity I managed to cobble together two serviceable units of five. At some point these will be useful for summoning in AoS, but for now they just serve as a handy way to get me back to painting.

They're nothing glamorous but they did turn out ok. I mixed in a few more modern bits that I found in my bits box too.

I have to say though, this year hasn't been a total wash in terms of hobby time, as I have played a fair few games of my new favourite game ever: Blood Bowl! I ran my Orcs in a local league, losing most of my games, but winning best painted and generally having a great time. I was intending to paint a new team for next season, but that didn't quite work out. They're still on the table though and I'll get them done for the one after...maybe.

Anyway, that's it from me for now. Hopefully I won't leave it quite as long next time!

Workbench Wednesday

Greetings all.

Been a while hasn't it? I seem to go for ages between posts these days, but I'm still at least intending to improve that... Anyway, I've got a fairly meagre offering today, but it's all I can muster at the moment. As I haven't done any painting of any sort for a while, I thought it might be an idea to show some WIP projects, since it might spur me on to give them a lick of paint.

First up are my Chaos Pact/Renegades for Blood Bowl. I'm kind of all about Blood Bowl at the moment, despite it being one of the most frustrating (and awesome) games around. I've got my Orcs in a completed state now, so it's time to turn to another team. I wasn't actually planning a Chaos team of any sort, but through a flurry of recent trades (mostly from Edward Gladdis, the enabler) I've managed to end up with one, without having to spend any cash money...

Because I'm an old school sort of fellow, these are all 2nd edition metals. I've got duplicates of the humans, but as they're prone to mutate after a skill roll or two, I'm not too worried since I'll have secondary versions of them for when they do. The familiars will be the Turn/Score/Re-Roll counters for the team. I've got a couple of models laying around that might make a good coach and apothecary too, but I haven't settled on those yet.

Next up is what will become my Necromunda gang. I painted up a load of cultists a couple of years ago, and Necromunda is the perfect reason to add to them. I was going to use the Cawdor heavy stubber in this gang, but he doesn't really fit, so I'm gonna have to come up with something else.

That's it for now. Hopefully I'll have something a bit more colourful to post next time!

A moment for the fallen heroes

Greetings all,

As I haven't been painting a great deal recently, I thought it would be a good opportunity to show off some of the models that I've painted in the past, and have been lost to the mists of time (by which I mean sold or repainted).

First up is my Death Guard army from way back in 2008-2011. This was my first fully painted army, and saw a good few battles throughout the excellent 5th edition of 40k. It was mostly made up of old school renegades and I was pretty proud of it at the time, although the paint job was quite simple. Ultimately this army was stripped with the intention to repaint, but ended up getting sold off.

The next few photos are what the army looked like after stripping and reassembling. I've still got a couple of these models, but most of them were sold.

Secondly I've got something that I've actually shown before, and that is my Undead/Necromantic team for Blood Bowl. I wasn't overly happy with these guys, but I do wish I'd repainted them, rather than selling them. I painted them around 2010 and added a few star players later, but ultimately they went on eBay. I *might* redo these guys someday, but I've got several other BB teams that I want to tackle first!

Next up is the army that immediately followed (and overlapped with) my Death Guard. This time I went for World Eaters. My biggest regret is selling off these guys, and I'd love to redo this army someday. They weren't all that good on the tabletop at the time, but they were lots of fun to paint, and there were some very cool models in there.

Lastly, a little abandoned project from the past: my Inquisitor (54mm) warband. I was interested in this when it first came out, looked at it again a few years later, but ultimately abandoned it as my gaming group went our separate ways over the years. I'm faintly interested in the Inq28 scene, but I don't think it's something I'll pick up again.

And that's it from me. Some big regrets there, with the moral of the story being to never sell painted models, no matter how much you need the money at the time! Some of this lot are on my mental list to replace at some future date, but time is my enemy at the moment, along with its evil sidekick, money...
