Nostalgia project 2: Mordheim Undead warband

 Greetings all.

Riding the wave of nostalgia from the last post, I painted up another little something that takes me back to an earlier time whenever I think about it: an Undead warband for Mordheim. This was something I always wanted at the time, but never really got round to doing. The Dregs and Zombies are from my original attempt at the warband back in 1999, and it was nice to finally get them done. Everything else I scooped up on eBay just for this project. I also included a Heresy Miniatures Ghoul King just in case one of my Ghouls makes it to Hero status.

Nice to have these guys done and kind of tick that box (nearly 25 years later). Might even manage to get a game or two in with them!

Another quick painting update

 Greetings all.

Just a super quick one from me today. I started off the year with a couple of random bits, before getting my teeth into a proper project. Both of these guys are 3D prints from my good mate Mark, who prints loads of awesome stuff and is really generous with them. As these two don't fit with anything in particular, I based them to match my Frostgrave/RoSD stuff.

Till next time.

Contrast experiments, and a big update

 Greetings all.

Been a while hasn't it? I've been back and forth on the blogging thing, but I'm gonna stick with it. At some point I need to refresh the blog a bit, probably change the name, and kind of refocus it on what I'm up to these days (which is all sorts of things actually). It's been a while since I've painted Chaos Daemons, Classic or otherwise, although I do still have plenty in my to do pile. I'll have a think on it and change things up a little, because I'm not sure I want to let the blog lapse entirely. It's a nice little diary of what I've been up to over the years, although it doesn't get a lot of traffic these days.

In any case, I might not have been blogging, but I actually have been painting a fair bit! This is due in no small part to the fact that I've finally caved to peer pressure and picked up some Contrast paints. Turns out they're awesome, and have completely revitalised my painting enthusiasm. There's definitely something to be said for just sitting down and smashing out some minis quickly. I tend to feel that painting is a bit of a slog, so this was a new experience for me.

Anyway, check out what I've got finished recently, mostly thanks to Contrast:

A bunch of sci-fi Beastmen to use as generic enemies in Stargrave

Saturated Rat, my new (old) Skaven Blood Bowl team. This is actually less than half the team mind you. I've managed to finish all the linerats, three journeymen, and some custom markers. I still need to do all the positionals, coaching staff, a few mutants, and a couple Star Players. Glad to be underway though.

Even more Renegade human linemen for my Chaos Renegades team

Random Troll for Frostgrave/Rangers of Shadow Deep

Familiars and bits, including my buddy Alex's Golden Fleece that he sculpted and had cast!

More Familiars. I've actually painted the entire range now so I'll get a group photo at some point

Heresy Ghoul King, again for Frostgrave or Rangers of Shadow Deep

Not bad at all. It's about 10 times my usual output, so I'm well pleased. I'm mostly focused on getting the Skaven BB team painted up at the moment, and then on to something else (possibly another BB team, although there are a lot of other things that are crying out for my attention!).

Till next time.

Throne of Bones: Flesh Eater Courts for Warcry

Greetings all,

In my efforts to make this year a much better year than last year (an ongoing project I suspect), I've actually been doing some painting! It's pretty simple and dirty, but it is all progress.

Like many people, I've been bitten by the Warcry bug. It looks like an absolute blinder of a game, although I haven't actually had chance to play it yet, but I'll rectify that pretty soon. Part of the appeal for me was the low model count (always a win these days), particularly when I realised I would only have to paint three extra models to have a full Flesh Eater Courts list...

It just so happens that a few years ago I had painted a gaggle of ghouls to use in Frostgrave (and they've come out to play on many occasions since), and all I would need to add would be a few bigger gribblies to have a full warband for Warcry. So that's exactly what I did:

They weren't too stressful to paint, and they fit rather nicely with the rest of the warband, so I'm over the moon. I find that completing little projects like this spur me on to do more, particularly when time feels as limited as it does these days. Anyway, hope you like them. Till next time.

A moment for the fallen heroes

Greetings all,

As I haven't been painting a great deal recently, I thought it would be a good opportunity to show off some of the models that I've painted in the past, and have been lost to the mists of time (by which I mean sold or repainted).

First up is my Death Guard army from way back in 2008-2011. This was my first fully painted army, and saw a good few battles throughout the excellent 5th edition of 40k. It was mostly made up of old school renegades and I was pretty proud of it at the time, although the paint job was quite simple. Ultimately this army was stripped with the intention to repaint, but ended up getting sold off.

The next few photos are what the army looked like after stripping and reassembling. I've still got a couple of these models, but most of them were sold.

Secondly I've got something that I've actually shown before, and that is my Undead/Necromantic team for Blood Bowl. I wasn't overly happy with these guys, but I do wish I'd repainted them, rather than selling them. I painted them around 2010 and added a few star players later, but ultimately they went on eBay. I *might* redo these guys someday, but I've got several other BB teams that I want to tackle first!

Next up is the army that immediately followed (and overlapped with) my Death Guard. This time I went for World Eaters. My biggest regret is selling off these guys, and I'd love to redo this army someday. They weren't all that good on the tabletop at the time, but they were lots of fun to paint, and there were some very cool models in there.

Lastly, a little abandoned project from the past: my Inquisitor (54mm) warband. I was interested in this when it first came out, looked at it again a few years later, but ultimately abandoned it as my gaming group went our separate ways over the years. I'm faintly interested in the Inq28 scene, but I don't think it's something I'll pick up again.

And that's it from me. Some big regrets there, with the moral of the story being to never sell painted models, no matter how much you need the money at the time! Some of this lot are on my mental list to replace at some future date, but time is my enemy at the moment, along with its evil sidekick, money...
