2015 in review

Greetings all.

It's the time of year where I look back over my progress and usually weep at the lack of it, but actually this year has been quite a productive one, hobby-wise.

My goal for this year was to paint 100 models, and I'm pleased to say that I've surpassed that target, with a total of 115! Not as many as some other bloggers that I've seen, but I'm satisfied.

Here's a run down of everything:

Phew! Doesn't look all that bad when I lay it all out like that!

I did also set myself the goal of playing 40 games this year, and that...didn't happen... I think I managed about 10 games in total. Not impressive. However, I was introduced to Rogue Trader, which was a blast!

Plans for 2016 are: paint even more models than this year, and play a bunch of games! On the table next are the rest of my Word Bearer cultists, and a second edition Orc blood bowl team... After that, my big project is to actually make some progress on my Khorne Daemonkin army!

A pretty good year for me, and looking forward to the next one!

We captured it for Chaos: First batch of cultists!

Greetings all!

Welcome to my penultimate post of the year! I'll be doing a round up of my hobby this year in a few days, but for now I have some new models to show you. And by "new" I obviously mean "old".

I converted this rotten bunch quite a while ago, but somehow never got round to painting them. These grim looking bastards are the first four members of "The Brotherhood of Forlorn Hope", a cult in service to the Word Bearers legion:

They look a bit darker in the picture than in real life, but nevermind! I've got another six of these rotters to paint up, hopefully in the next few days. This now brings my total to 115 models painted this year, nice!

Comments are welcome!

Merry Christmas!

Seasons greetings all!

In case I don't get chance over the next couple days (entirely possible), I thought I'd post this now.

The first order of business is to wish everyone that frequents my little corner of the internet a very merry Christmas indeed! Thanks for all the comments this year, and thanks to the other bloggers for continuing to churn out wonderful models for me to steal inspiration from and pass it off as my own ;)

As a Christmas treat, I've painted up this little beauty:

For those who don't know, this is the limited edition "space Santa" from Christmas 1985. He actually holds a special place in my heart because he was released during my very first Christmas on this earth! And just like me, his looks have held up over time... I didn't manage to pick him up until earlier this year, but I'm glad I did. He's a wonderful model and totally packed with character (his gun is a cracker!).

Hope you like him!

Some pictures from last night's game

Greetings all.

Just a quickie post to show a couple pics from the game I played last night. I played the same guy as last week (with the harlequins), and this time he brought along a foot based Eldar list.

The Stormbringers managed to pretty much clean up, mainly thanks to the invisible flesh hounds getting the job done as usual!

The horde approaches...

Just to show how badass he really is, the Phoenix Lord stands atop the vortex unleashed by one of his underlings (which managed to deal a lot more damage to the Eldar than to the daemons...).

Another awesome game, and I'm glad to be playing again!

Raining Blood! More Khorne daemons

Greetings all.

For some time now I've been somewhat half-heartedly putting together a Khorne Daemonkin army for 40k. Not really sure why my heart hasn't been in it the whole time, but there you go. I'll go through stages of being really excited about it and cracking on with a unit or two, and then back into a slump... I think maybe I just need to get them on the tabletop and enjoy playing with them. On balance, they probably don't have the raw power of daemons, but they look like a fun army to play, and they do have some real gems in the codex.

Anyway, enough waffle. I painted some more Khorne daemons that will become part of my KDK army. Two more flesh hounds (I need about a bajillion), and a bloodletter musician converted from a first edition model, and a current plastic bit.

Hope you like them! Say some nice words and whatnot... Perhaps it'll encourage me to paint more of them...

Gaming again!

Greetings all.

Just a super quick post from me, mainly to stay in the habit of posting more regularly.

At the start of the year I had the best of intentions to play a whole bunch of games. That hasn't exactly happened, though I am pleased to report that I'm finally getting back to gaming again. I've returned to my old club (in its new venue), and this week I got a game of 40k in!

I had meant to take a bunch of pictures, but we were both trying to brush up on the rules still, and my opponent had just started a new army so didn't have much painted (although what was painted looked pretty cool).

We played 1000 points in a simple maelstrom mission, which was a blast really. In the end I managed a 14-10 win, but the game was back and forth the whole time and always felt very close. The deciding moment came when my flesh hounds and herald (warlord) wiped out the opposing warlord and his retinue:
At this point the Harlequin warlord is a red smear, while Hatebreed the herald of Khorne grins gleefully...

Great game, and good to be back too. We've got another one planned for Monday, so I'll try and get a few more pics and maybe write up a short report.

He who makes a beast of himself, gets rid of the pain of being a man

Greetings all.

Two posts from me in under a week is surely a personal best, but as you loyal lot deserve only the best, it's happening!

Kind of a milestone for me this one, as it represents the completion of a project I've been working on for a little while. I'm overjoyed to say that I have now finished off the last of "The Chargers", the mutant beastmen in the service of the ever-shifty Inquisitor Emeric. The last of that barbaric bunch is the cyber Minotaur, Moloch:

Another model that was a pain to acquire, but a sheer delight to paint. I love the over the top craziness going on here, just pure RT goodness. Even more so than his brother Knossos in fact. I mean, this guy literally has guns in place of his horns, as well as no organic eyes and an exposed brain! He now joins the crew to add some more muscle and firepower:

I do actually have plans to expand this lot in the future, but for the meantime at least, they are finished.

I'm aiming to paint eleventy-one models before the end of the year (currently at 108), so I'll probably go back to my roots for a bit and paint up a few of the many (many, many) old school daemons that are sitting around awaiting my attentions.

Comments welcome of course!

Painting continues!

Hello all.

Well I'm continuing to force myself to do a little painting here and there. I've been feeling like I've lost my enthusiasm for it a little, but I guess these things come and go. The only way to get back into it, is to get back into it. So that's exactly what I'm doing!

To ease myself back into things, I've been working on a few loose bits and pieces that I've had lying around for too long. The other day I finished off the mutant ogre and plague elemental that have been sitting in their undercoat for a couple of years... Yesterday I finished off a couple models that haven't been quite so neglected, but needed some attention nevertheless. This time it's the second edition pink horror command:

I do apologise for the shoddy picture; I haven't got a proper set up for taking photos at the new place yet.

These second edition chaps aren't my favourite horrors (first edition all the way), but these two do have a certain wacky charm.

Hope you like them, more painted lead to come soon. Currently working on a few Rogue Trader bits, and kinda feeling that I'm getting back in the groove a little.

Comments welcome of course!

Getting back to it!

Hello dear readers!

So I'm all set up in the new place, and finally back to painting again! I kinda felt like I'd lost my mojo, so I thought I'd start small and tackle a couple of things I've had sitting around for a while. Enter the mutant ogre and plague elemental:

Nothing too fancy about these guys. I just wanted something fairly easy to paint that I'd been meaning to do for a while. Let me know what you think!
