Saturated Rat: Skaven team complete!

 Greetings all,

Well I still haven't refreshed the blog like I said I would... I will at some point, but that point is not this point. I have however been painting a whole bunch of stuff! As I mentioned before, Contrast paints have been an absolute game-changer for me. This is mostly a psychological change really; I find painting a real grind at the best of times, and being able to just sit down and get something finished, or at least make some significant progress, completely changes the way I think about it.

I've also been playing about with a bit of Zenithal priming and pre-shading on a few things here and there, which is significant for me. Given that I find painting such a pain, it's been a long time since I tried out any new techniques, so it's been nice to do just that.

To take a little breather from my Skaven, I painted up this chap with a Zenithal prime/Contrast combo. This is the first version of Scyla Anfingrimm, who I had planned on using as a Flesh Hound/Gore Hound. He's been sitting unloved for literally years, so he seemed like the perfect candidate to try out something new on. Very pleased with how he came out, especially as he still matches the rest of my Flesh Hounds quite well.

After that, I cracked on with my Skaven again and here they are in all their glory:

Technically they're not *quite* complete, as there are a few more things I want to add (newer Rat Ogre, Star Players, and a few mutants). This is the main team done now though, and I've already managed to get a game in with them (terrible pics below).

I've also had a bash with the new Stargrave rules (more terrible pics below):

We've been playing Frostgrave for years, so the rules weren't too much to wrap our heads around. Still plenty to learn though, and I'm looking forward to putting together a crew of space cowboys.

That's all from me for now, but I'll try to keep up the painting and posting. Till next time.

Contrast experiments, and a big update

 Greetings all.

Been a while hasn't it? I've been back and forth on the blogging thing, but I'm gonna stick with it. At some point I need to refresh the blog a bit, probably change the name, and kind of refocus it on what I'm up to these days (which is all sorts of things actually). It's been a while since I've painted Chaos Daemons, Classic or otherwise, although I do still have plenty in my to do pile. I'll have a think on it and change things up a little, because I'm not sure I want to let the blog lapse entirely. It's a nice little diary of what I've been up to over the years, although it doesn't get a lot of traffic these days.

In any case, I might not have been blogging, but I actually have been painting a fair bit! This is due in no small part to the fact that I've finally caved to peer pressure and picked up some Contrast paints. Turns out they're awesome, and have completely revitalised my painting enthusiasm. There's definitely something to be said for just sitting down and smashing out some minis quickly. I tend to feel that painting is a bit of a slog, so this was a new experience for me.

Anyway, check out what I've got finished recently, mostly thanks to Contrast:

A bunch of sci-fi Beastmen to use as generic enemies in Stargrave

Saturated Rat, my new (old) Skaven Blood Bowl team. This is actually less than half the team mind you. I've managed to finish all the linerats, three journeymen, and some custom markers. I still need to do all the positionals, coaching staff, a few mutants, and a couple Star Players. Glad to be underway though.

Even more Renegade human linemen for my Chaos Renegades team

Random Troll for Frostgrave/Rangers of Shadow Deep

Familiars and bits, including my buddy Alex's Golden Fleece that he sculpted and had cast!

More Familiars. I've actually painted the entire range now so I'll get a group photo at some point

Heresy Ghoul King, again for Frostgrave or Rangers of Shadow Deep

Not bad at all. It's about 10 times my usual output, so I'm well pleased. I'm mostly focused on getting the Skaven BB team painted up at the moment, and then on to something else (possibly another BB team, although there are a lot of other things that are crying out for my attention!).

Till next time.

Warcry terrain finished!

 Greetings all.

Hope my handful of readers are keeping as well as possible. Two posts in quick succession is a rarity for me these days, as is completing a project of a decent size, but here we are! I'm delighted to say I've finished off my Shattered Stormvault terrain for Warcry, making that two "Ravaged Lands" and a bunch of scatter that I've completed so far this year. Not bad by my standards. The two sets fit together nicely, and fill most of a mid-sized AoS board too. Not that I've played AoS in years, but it's good to have options!

Shattered Stormvault finished:

All of the Warcry Terrain together:

It's pretty simple, and there's lots more I could add, but it's finished and that's good enough for me these days! Should be a good backdrop for some fun games when the world calms down a bit. At some point I'd like to add a few trees and hills to make for a full sized AoS battlefield, as well as any number of other games (RoSD, Frostgrave, etc), but this'll do nicely for now.

Till next time.

Even more quick terrain for Warcry & AoS

 Greetings all.

As usual, it's been a while since I posted. Motivation is still fairly low (as I'm sure it is for most people at the moment), and I don't seem to get much traffic here these days in any case. I'm still continuing with the blog for the meantime anyway, as it's helpful for me to look back on it and see what I've done and how I felt about it at the time. I seem to start every post with a moan these days, but such is life at the moment!

Having said all that, I have at least been moderately productive recently. I said I was thinking of getting another Ravaged Land set to expand on the one of just finished, and that's exactly what I did. Thought it was best to ride the terrain train for a while longer whilst I was still inspired to do it!

I actually picked up a couple more terrain sets in the end. The first one was a little box of Timeworn Ruins to fill out what I already had from the Defiled Ruins set, but I enjoyed them so much that I also picked up a Shattered Stormvault to go along with it.

I smashed out the Timeworn Ruins in no time at all, in the same very basic colour scheme as before:

The Shattered Stormvault is taking a bit longer to do, but essentially following the same pattern as before as well. I kept the pillars and plinths separate, and kept the whole lot as modular as possible so that it would a) be easier to store and transport, and b) be able to match the Warcry cards. I actually magnetised the pillars and plinths so that they wouldn't instantly topple over if they were bumped into even gently.

Here are a few random WIP pics of the Stormvault set:

That's all for now really. I'll take a few pics of everything together when it's complete. I might need to get some trees or something to make a more interesting battlefield for AoS, but this will be plenty good enough for now. The plan is to go back over all of my terrain and do some more weathering at some stage, but there are far too many actual minis to paint in the meantime!

Till next time.
