Citadel C34 Elementals: Finished!

Greetings all.

I've reached a kind of mini milestone today, in that I've finished my C34 Elementals at last! I've been putting it off for ages, mostly because I don't like the last one in the set (Life Elemental) and I didn't want to paint her. But paint her I did:

I didn't enjoy this one, and I'm not overly happy with the end product, but she is finished, and the collection is complete!

That's a little project done and dusted before the end of the year, so I'm happy! A few more bits for Frostgrave still to finish, and then it's on to Blood Bowl!

No guts, no glory: Zombies and Plague Elemental

Greetings all.

Just a quick one from me this time (although that's two in a week - pretty good by my usual standards!). I actually finished the models you're about to see sometime last week, but with all the BOYL excitement I didn't actually get chance to take pictures of them. They painted up nice and quickly too, which was a bit of a result as I've been wanting to get them off my table for a while.

First up, two "speed painted" (still not that quick!) zombies, mostly to be used in Frostgrave:

These two are both made from the old(ish) GW plastics, the staple of many an undead army, as well as conversion fodder over the years. Not at all my best work, but they're only zombie grunts so I wanted to get them done as quickly as possible. I used Tamiya Clear Red, mixed with a little black ink, to pick out the gory bits.

The other model I managed to finish at the tail end of last week was a repaint of my Plague Elemental. I actually painted this exact model some time ago, just to get back into the swing of things painting-wise. He looked ok but I was never fully happy with him, so when it came to painting my way through the Elementals, I decided to strip and redo him. Here he is before the repaint:

Definitely much happier with him this time round. I also based him up Frostgrave style, either for use as a major demon, or possibly the Alchemical Abomination in the Dark Alchemy campaign (probably he'll end up as both, and more).

I'm nearing completion of my Elementals mini project now, with just Life left to do. She's a little bit daunting though, and definitely the most detailed of the lot. Once I build up the courage to get cracking I'm sure it'll go better than expected (and I'll do a long overdue group shot of all of them together).

I've been somewhat lazy in keeping up this blog recently, mostly because I've been so busy with real life stuff that I just haven't had the motivation! That said, I have been painting and gaming when I've had the opportunity, and it's possible that you've already seen some of the pics I'm about to share. I'll also give you a little backstory to what I'm working on and why.

First up are my C34 Elementals that I'm working my way through. I'm actually rather enjoying painting these up now. They've got a lot of character and you don't see many of their like these days. While they aren't exactly super rare, I'm certainly glad I've got the full set in my collection. The two most recent additions are Fire and Death:

Really had a blast painting these two, Fire in particular. Death will also be serving as the Lich Lord in future games of Frostgrave.

I've also been playing through a Frostgrave campaign with my good buddy Alex. We've just finished the rulebook scenarios, including an incredibly bloody finale that resulted in death and maiming on both sides! About half way through the campaign, my wizard and captain both died, pretty much the worst thing that could have happened! Nevertheless, we persevered and wrote it into the story (my wizard was betrayed by his apprentice, and the captain obviously knew too much...). With that in mind, I decided to paint up a new wizard model, to represent the newly promoted apprentice in his new role. As a result, Scabrous Vile and his new apprentice Drear were born:

I also painted up a few more henchmen to go treasure seeking with them. Firstly, a crow master (and crow), made from a heavily chopped up marauder thug. The crow is and unmodified model from the Nurgle Lord on steed:

I also painted up another red haired archer, also based on a marauder thug (with some minor conversion work):

I think that brings us fully up to date for now, just in time for me to head off to BOYL tomorrow! I suspect Alex and I will be getting a few games of Frostgrave in while we're there, in between gawping at other people's gorgeous renditions of models from the golden age of gaming. 

Citadel C34 Elementals

Greetings all.

Just a quickie today.

Now I'm not usually one for collecting entire ranges of models, though I know that's a pretty common thing to do among the Oldhammer lot. I tend to collect with a purpose (i.e. gaming), or just go with what I like the look of.

I haven't really changed my mind on that, but I've sort of accidentally collected most of a range, so now I'm working towards completing it, because why not? That said, I suppose it's not really a complete range, but a part of it... Ok I seem to be rambling. The moral of this story is that I've collected and painted several of the C34 Elementals, and now I've decided to do the rest!

I've just painted this chap, the Water Elemental:

That leaves me with Fire, Life, and Death to do. They're such cool models, I thought why not? I'll take a decent group shot once I've got them all done.

I've got Fire and Death in the painting queue, but if anyone has a Life Elemental that they'd care to part with, give me a shout!
