Army list thoughts: Seventh edition

Greetings all.

In my efforts to post a little more often, I thought I might provide some insight into my current army selection now that 40k seventh has dropped.

I'm starting off with just 1000 points this time, partly to get my head around the nuances of the new rules and partly so I have a chance of having a fully painted army again.

Here it is:

HQ

Herald of Tzeentch - Disc, ML3, Exalted Reward (Portalglyph)
Herald of Tzeentch - Disc, ML3, Lesser Reward (Staff probably)

These guys ride with the Screamers. They'll both roll on Malefic, hoping for at least one Cursed Earth so I can have a good sized bubble of protection.

Troops

12 Pink Horrors - Champion
12 Pink Horrors - Champion

These guys are here to generate warp charge and provide backfield OS scoring. They'll also do a bit of summoning if I have enough charge.

Fast Attack

6 Screamers

Bodyguard for the Heralds, and tank munchers.

Heavy Support

Soul Grinder - Slaanesh, Baleful Torrent
Soul Grinder - Slaanesh, Baleful Torrent

The real heavy hitters. They'll run alongside the Screamers and Heralds to benefit from Cursed Earth.

There's not much to it I realise, but it's a start and it'll get me used to playing with the seventh edition rules. Models-wise, I'm currently working on the Heralds and the Screamers, and I have a little something planned for the Grinders.

Comments welcome!

Army list thoughts: 1500pts (again!)

King's Landing baby!

Greetings all.

Ok so the picture is completely unrelated, but as I don't have any models to show you, I thought I'd share!

Been a while since I've posted... I've not been completely idle, but most of my gaming time has been spent assembling ancient bits of lead for my army. I thought I'd just let you know that I'm not dead though. Been thinking about working my list more towards something "competitive" (how I hate that word!).

After another kicking at the hands of my clubmates (three in a row now... oh dear), I've re-jigged the list to this:

HQ
Fateweaver
Daemon Prince of Slaanesh - Lash, Portal, Wings, Armour, ML3

Troops
11 Horrors
11 Horrors

Fast Attack
16 Flesh Hounds

Heavy Support
Daemon Prince of Tzeentch - Greater Reward, Grimoire, Wings, Armour, ML3

Fortification
Aegis Defence Line

It's similar to what I've been running, but with a few important tweaks. I only have two troops, but I'm very much of the opinion that that's all I need. I can keep the pressure on and do some late game contesting, so I just need a couple campers. I do also have the portal to reinforce home objectives if need be.

The hounds have been beefed up too, and now hide out behind the ADL. I deploy it forwards and let them scout up behind it. If night fighting is in effect, then all the better, or if I get lucky and roll Mental Fortitude (so they can GtG behind it and then pop right up again). The inclusion of the ADL comes from being battered by first turn Eldar and Space Marine firepower recently... Gonna try it out for a while and see how I get on.

Thoughts are welcome as ever. Next time I promise to have (relevant) pictures ;)

Army list thoughts: 1500pts

Greetings all.

No models in this post I'm afraid (painted or otherwise)... But I did promise my good friend Tommy that I'd write up some army lists and thoughts, so here I go.

The club I normally play at tends to play 1500pts more than anything else. There is the occasional 1850 or 2k game, but 1500 seems to be the standard. Recently I've been going up against some really good opponents so I've been trying to refine my list more and more into something that I feel has the potential to handle anything out there. Not to say I'm looking to win every game I play, but it is nice to feel like you have the tools to defeat anything you might face.

This is the list I'm currently working towards:

HQ
Fateweaver
This guy is just too useful not to include. The reroll and the warlord trait alone make him worthwhile.
Slaanesh Daemon Prince (wings, armour, 2 x greater reward, ML3)
This guy is there for the AA and AT power that the Lash can bring. Sometimes he'll be swapped for a Nurgle prince with a Balesword. Not sure which I prefer right now.

Troops
10 Daemonettes
11 Horrors
11 Horrors

Fast Attack
9 Screamers
These used to be a big 15-strong squad of Flesh Hounds. I find that the Flesh Hounds are incredible against most bad guys, but completely impotent against others. Screamers are not quite as killy, but still have great survivability and speed. They can also threaten a great variety of enemies, and their slashing attack can be really useful in getting First Blood. Not sure which I prefer here yet either...

Heavy Support
Tzeentch Daemon Prince  (wings, armour, greater reward, exalted reward, ML3)
This guy is fantastic. He flies around buffing with the grimoire and blasting things with flickering fire.

I've got quite a few other lists that I'm playing around with in my head, but this is what I'm leaning towards at the moment. I might swap the Screamers out for Flesh Hounds again, but I need to playtest much more first.

Comments are most welcome!
