We captured it for Chaos... a long overdue update

 Greetings all.

Bit of an unexpected update this time. Many moons ago (like seven years or so) I painted up some of the very cool, and not very readily available Chaos Cultists from 2nd Edition 40k, sculpted by Paul Muller. I've got a fair few of these guys, but tbh I wish I had even more because they're some of my favourite models of all time.

I had originally planned for these guys to be part of a Khorne Daemonkin army, but given that I don't really play 40k any more, and Daemonkin dont actually exist any more, they sort of sat unloved for a long time. My first batch were painted up in Khorne colours (i.e. red!) and were mostly unconverted, but these guys were chopped up loads. I decided to paint these up in Undivided colours, given that they weren't planned for inclusion in any particular army or project, and will just turn up as and when I need some deluded mooks (probably in Stargrave more than anything). I also added in an old Redemptionist flamer to give them a bit of firepower, and it fits the aesthetic nicely.

I also updated the basing on my older Khorne cultists to bring them in line with my current minis a bit more (with a sneak peek of some other bits in the background):

Hope you like em!

Workbench Wednesday

Greetings all.

Been a while hasn't it? I seem to go for ages between posts these days, but I'm still at least intending to improve that... Anyway, I've got a fairly meagre offering today, but it's all I can muster at the moment. As I haven't done any painting of any sort for a while, I thought it might be an idea to show some WIP projects, since it might spur me on to give them a lick of paint.

First up are my Chaos Pact/Renegades for Blood Bowl. I'm kind of all about Blood Bowl at the moment, despite it being one of the most frustrating (and awesome) games around. I've got my Orcs in a completed state now, so it's time to turn to another team. I wasn't actually planning a Chaos team of any sort, but through a flurry of recent trades (mostly from Edward Gladdis, the enabler) I've managed to end up with one, without having to spend any cash money...

Because I'm an old school sort of fellow, these are all 2nd edition metals. I've got duplicates of the humans, but as they're prone to mutate after a skill roll or two, I'm not too worried since I'll have secondary versions of them for when they do. The familiars will be the Turn/Score/Re-Roll counters for the team. I've got a couple of models laying around that might make a good coach and apothecary too, but I haven't settled on those yet.

Next up is what will become my Necromunda gang. I painted up a load of cultists a couple of years ago, and Necromunda is the perfect reason to add to them. I was going to use the Cawdor heavy stubber in this gang, but he doesn't really fit, so I'm gonna have to come up with something else.

That's it for now. Hopefully I'll have something a bit more colourful to post next time!

We captured it for Chaos: Revisiting my Chaos Cult

Greetings all.

A bit of a departure from my recent stuff this time, I decided to revisit my cultists from a while back. In my 1850 list for 40k I had 5 points to spare, so these lads managed to get themselves a flamer. They'll probably all be dead before they get chance to use it, but it makes them feel important and scary, and that's what really counts.

He's a pretty straightforward conversion of a Valhallan with a flamer. All I did was chop off and drill out the head, replacing it with a ghoul head to make him seem much more of an unsavoury character. I also distressed his greatcoat a little, and filed down any Imperial iconography.

Hope you like him. I'll be going back to Frostgrave for a bit, then probably working on some Nurgle daemons, and the last of my Elementals. Till next time!

We captured it for Chaos: The whole rotten lot!

Greetings all.

Once again I've done that thing where I don't post for ages... I'm planning to get out of that bad habit, even if it means posting a lot more WIP stuff (which might go down well actually, we shall see).

Today I have a few completed bits to show you. I've finally finished off the cultists that I started over a year ago...

The final member of the Brotherhood of Forlorn Hope is their leader, "Flaky" Sal:

He's built from an old school Jes Goodwin Nurgle champion, with a small amount of conversion work. Firstly I needed him to carry an autopistol, so off came the sword to be replaced with a pistol from the excellent plastic cultist kit.

I also wanted him to be a bit less Nurgle, so removed the mark of Nurgle from his forehead, and did a little green stuff work to make him seem less decayed, but still degenerate.

Here he is leading the cult to glory in the eyes of the true gods:

Painting all these guys was a real grind tbh, but I'm really pleased with how they turned out, both in terms of conversion work, and painting. They'll mostly be used in 40k, but I suspect they'll find their way into a few games of Rogue Trader as generic mutants (or possibly with a backstory of their own actually).

As a reminder, I was originally inspired by this image of Chaos Cultists:

Definitely what they should be like in my opinion.

Comments are most welcome!

We captured it for Chaos: Even more Chaos Cultists

Greetings all.

This will be a short post, as I have a long overdue write up of a Rogue Trader battle I had with my good buddy Alex last week.

Just a couple pics of some more cultists I finished off:

One old scavvy and one very old scavvy join the gang.

Enjoy!

We captured it for Chaos: More Chaos Cultists

Greetings all.

Just completed my second batch of cultists for The Brotherhood of Forlorn Hope. I'm using a quite eclectic mix of models for this bunch, and these guys are probably my favourites so far: two confrontation scavvies and a slightly converted scummer from Necromunda.

I painted them in the same scheme as the others, just varying it slightly to keep things interesting. Got three more of these guys to do, including a champion. They're taking forever to do, but I'm pretty pleased with them!

Comments welcome!

We captured it for Chaos: First batch of cultists!

Greetings all!

Welcome to my penultimate post of the year! I'll be doing a round up of my hobby this year in a few days, but for now I have some new models to show you. And by "new" I obviously mean "old".

I converted this rotten bunch quite a while ago, but somehow never got round to painting them. These grim looking bastards are the first four members of "The Brotherhood of Forlorn Hope", a cult in service to the Word Bearers legion:

They look a bit darker in the picture than in real life, but nevermind! I've got another six of these rotters to paint up, hopefully in the next few days. This now brings my total to 115 models painted this year, nice!

Comments are welcome!

Hobby update: Daemonkin WIP stuff

Greetings all.

I've not been blogging quite as much as I should have been recently, mostly due to a bunch of real life stuff getting in the way. I have been working on some stuff though, but to be honest it's not *that* interesting to look out (lots of assembly work and no painting). I'll give you a little update nevertheless...

Built myself another jugger lord:

Chopped up and repositioned my old Heldrake conversion:

Built some more cultists, with some very cool headswaps:

Also on the table is this mess of parts:

Hopefully cracking on with some painting soon!

Blood for the Blood God! Cultists finished...

Greetings all.

Work continues on my Khorne force, and I'm delighted to say I've finished the last of my cultists. Here are the two Demagogues and a flamer-toting cultist (actually an old sorcerer model, but don't tell Khorne):

You might wonder why I've painted up such an odd number of these guys (actually an even number, but you know what I mean). The reason is so that I can use them as both Khorne Daemonkin cultists (in a unit of eight, with no duplicates), and as "normal" cultists (in a unit of 10, with a couple of duplicates). I've also got a choice of weapons for the Demagogue, and a flamer if points allow:

Blood for the Blood God! More Khorne Daemonkin Cultists

Greetings all.

I'm still grinding through my Daemonkin cultists. They're a bit of a pain to paint, but they are extremely cool, so I'm persevering.

Got another four done this week, including a little friend for them:

The beastman is a minor conversion of an old WFB model. I just swapped out his shield hand for a pit slave hand holding a pistol, and tidied up the damage with a little green stuff. Clearly the Bloodfather favours this rabble if he has blessed them with a beastman to fight alongside them.

I'll get some better pictures of these guys when I've finished up the last few. Comments welcome in the meantime!

Blood for the Blood God: Khorne Daemonkin beginnings...

Greetings all.

I've been pretty quiet for a while, but only because I've been led astray by shiny new projects... Against my better judgement, I've decided to start a small KDK army, The Scions of Skalathrax. Here are the early beginnings:

The first batch of my KDK cultists. These guys are the old Paul Muller cultists, and I thought they looked pretty buff so they'd fit rather nicely for a bunch of mental Khorne worshippers. The second batch are here:

Two demagogues, one with a shotgun, and a pretty cool chaos sorcerer that I'll be using as a flamer-toting cultist.

Lastly, I've put together a suitable leader for this rabble:

He's built from a first edition World Eater and juggernaut, with a lightning claw and power fist from the Warp Talons set.

Not much to see just yet I know, but comments are most welcome!

Hobby update, a big one!

Greetings all.

Well it's been a little while since I posted (again)... I've had a lot of not so great real life stuff going on recently, but this little blog of mine isn't about real life, it's about toy soldiers (which are much more enjoyable). With that said, I have an update for you...

First up, I got the rest of my cultists ready for painting:

More old school goodness here, and more Necromunda goodies too. From left to right: classic beastman, Necromunda Wyrd, Confrontation Scavvy, Necromunda Pit Slave, and Necromunda Scavvy. Some minor conversion work here once again, using bits from the plastic Chaos Cultists. I'm well pleased with how this motley crew have turned out and I can't wait to get some paint on them!

I've also been experimenting with a bit of green stuff press moulding. I've had a headless flesh hound sitting around for some time, and as these chaps have been out of production for more than a few years, it's a little tricky to find a replacement. So I came up with a solution! It's the first time I've done any press moulding so it isn't perfect, but it came out better than expected so I'm rather pleased:

Lastly, as I'm constantly tinkering with my army list (so I can crush my enemies, see them driven before me, and hear the lamentations of their women. Obviously.), it gives me reasons to paint more models. My most recent iteration meant that I needed a handful more horrors, plus a few additions to my fast attack choices:

I painted this little lot up pretty quickly by my standards, but I'm pretty happy with them. Since painting these guys, I've actually tinkered further, so I need to paint up a few more dudes, but such is life!

Comments are welcome of course!

We captured it for Chaos: Chaos Cultists WIP

Greetings all.

Not a big update from me today, but just letting you know that I am alive and well, and that I do have some projects very much on the go (just haven't had much to show for it till now).

You may remember that a while ago I was deliberating over my model choices for my Chaos Cultists (if you don't, trust me, I was!). In the end I decided to go for an eclectic rabble, and tie them together with a cohesive colour scheme.

My inspiration for the cult is definitely this picture (courtesy of Lexicanum):

This bunch of degenerates just screams "Chaos Cult" and I wanted a similar selection of rotters for my cult. With that in mind, here are the first five:

I've pretty much plundered the Necromunda and Mordheim ranges for my cult, as they're so full of character. These guys are made up of two early Scavvies, two Mordheim Dregs, and my one of my most favourite models, an Underhive Scum. I've done a small amount of conversion work to them, just to bring them in line with the armament in the codex. Got another five in the pipeline soon.

Hope you like em!
