Finishing off my Nurgle daemons: Part 2 - Horticulous Slimux

 Greetings all.

I've been continuing my quest to paint the last of my Nurgle daemons. Of course, even when they're all done I'll have a mountain of mortal Nurgle followers to do, as well as the vast majority of a Death Guard army... one step at a time though!

My mot recent addition to the painted pile is Horticulous Slimux. I've liked this mini since it came out a few years back. It suffers from the modern GW problem of being a little bit too busy, but thankfully not as bad as some minis. It took a bit longer than planned to paint up, but on the whole was quite an enjoyable experience.

I also took a few better pics of the rest of my recent Heralds while I was at it:

Till next time.

Finishing off my Nurgle daemons: Part 1 - Heralds

 Greetings all.

I've been painting Daemons, and Nurgle Daemons specifically, for over 10 years now. I keep adding to the pile though so they never seem to be finished. I decided it was time to change all that and just polish off the last few that I have sitting around unloved. There aren't a huge amount of them to do so it's about time I got over the hump and finished them. The first ones I tackled were this trio of Heralds:

I deliberated for ages because I didn't want to paint them in my "old style", but I was a bit worried about them not fitting with the others. But then I remembered that it's Nurgle so anything goes. As it happens, they stand out a little (fitting because they're characters) but still fit the visual of the horde as a whole, so I'm happy.

Mordheim: The Cart

 Greetings all.

As I enjoyed painting up my Mordheim warband so much, I decided to add something special to the merry band: the mighty Plague Cart! This is also from the Circus of Corruption range from Old School Miniatures and is a massive lump of resin. Took a bit of scrubbing and cleaning (and even then I had to go back and clean a few bits even after I'd started painting...) but was well worth it in the end.

Realm of Warcry: Krule and the gang

 Greetings all.

After having so much fun building and painting my champion, I added a couple mates for him to boss around:

Bonus Johann now included to run away from various things.

We also played a cheeky game via zoom the other day, a sort of trial of champions. Great fun too, with lots of twists and turns. We rolled up some additional followers (including more bloody dwarfs for me...) so I'll be adding them to the merry little band shortly.

Realm of Warcry: Part One

 Greetings all.

A somewhat odd post from me today... if any of you follow my good buddy Alex's blog Leadballoony you might have seen his efforts in building a Realm of Chaos/Warcry mashup warband. Essentially rolling up a champion and followers in the hallowed tomes of the Lost and the Damned and Slaves to Darkness, and then translating this to modern minis and rules.

A few weeks ago I suggested to my fellow geeks that we should at some point do a "Tale of Four Gamers" style slow grow project. Everyone immediately jumped on it as a good idea, and Alex suggested that we hop on his Realm of Warcry bandwagon and build warbands on a monthly basis, with the occasional game in between. Given that this is obviously a brilliant idea, that is exactly what we did!

We got together on Zoom to roll up our initial warbands, and either by fate or personal choice we all ended up with Nurgle as our patron. My champion and initial clutch of followers are as below:

  • Orc Champion of Nurgle - Very long legs, Nurgling infestation
  • 2 Orcs
  • 1 Dark Elf
  • 1 Cold One
  • 3 Beastmen
  • 6 Dwarfs
Bit of a mixed bag I think you'll agree! We've allowed ourselves a bit of artistic licence with this whole project, given that the end goal is a bit of fun and creativity, so we'll be rerolling anything that is too silly, and there's a certain amount of interpretation allowed as to what the choices actually refer to (for example, my Cold One may end up being a slightly different beast, but keeping the general theme).

The catch is that all of these minis will be from the "modern" GW range, to save us the headache of hunting down old lead. With that in mind, I present my champion, Slumpsha Swampstrider:

He's built from the incredible new Kruleboyz kit, with a few Nurgly additions and a bit of green stuff to give him those lanky legs. Very pleased with how he came out and I can't wait to see how he performs in his quest for glory.

Mordheim: The Circus is in town!

 Greetings all.

Bit of an unusual post from me today, because it's a Mordheim warband! I've got some major nostalgia about Mordheim, despite never having actually played a game... I fondly remember 1999 (for a great many reasons) and being very interested in the game with my school friends at the time. I got the boxed set for my birthday or Christmas that year, and fiddled around with the minis a bit, but never actually rolled any dice. I assume we got distracted by the equally awesome Blood Bowl, Necromunda, or possibly Warhammer Quest. Since then I've sold off what little Mordheim stuff I had (or converted it for other things), and never really thought much about it since.

That all changed when my good buddy Alex gave me the complete Circus of Corruption set from Old School Miniatures. This little lot are an awesome re-imagining of the classic Carnival of Chaos from Mordheim.

They actually sat unloved in my to do pile for a couple of years before I got round to them, but I finally did:

The complete warband

Carnival Master & Plaguebearers

Clowns (Tainted Ones)

Strongmen (Brutes)

Brethren 1

Brethren 2

Nurglings

I went with round bases for this lot because it's 2022, and I also based them all (except the Nurglings) on the slightly larger 32mm bases. Partly this was a functional choice because they're some very chunky models, but mostly I just like the way it looks. I'm itching to play some Mordheim with them now and party like it's 1999!

The rest of the Untamed Beasts

 Greetings all.

I've finished up the last of my Untamed Beasts for Warcry (and other stuff I guess), just in time for 2nd Edition. Given how little I played 1st edition I can't say I'm thrilled about having to buy more books, but that's just how it is with GW these days.

I bought the double box of Untamed Beasts (the AoS one) to give me plenty of options and painted most of them up a little while back. I almost didn't bother with these last few guys but it seemed silly just to have them sat on the sprue doing nothing, so here are the rest of the pack:

I did a few conversions on these ones just to make them a bit more interesting and different to the others. I kinda wish I'd done that with more of them, but never mind. Pleased with how they all look on the whole.

Painting update: Warcry (Untamed Beasts)

 Greetings all.

Another quick update just to try and catch up. This time it's my new-ish Untamed Beasts warband for Warcry. I've already got plenty of AoS style warbands that I could use, but I really wanted a "proper" one because they're so cool.

And here they are in action:

Till next time.
