You must gather your party before venturing forth: Adventures in Frostgrave!

Greetings all.

In my quest to post a bit more frequently, I have some WIP stuff to show off, and a little update to go along with it.

Firstly, I'm now one of the ever-growing number of people to have fallen in love with Frostgrave! Very reasonably priced, low entry point, and a ruleset that is easy to pick up while still being difficult to master. It has a very old school D&D vibe to it (hence the title of this post; bonus points for those who get the reference). I've been thinking about it for a while, but I had my first game last night and I'm instantly hooked.

Given my interest in Realm of Chaos era Citadel goodies, it seemed only right to theme my warband in the same way. And so it was that the depraved summoner Sebassis Daemonclaw and his band were born:

Ive gone for a selection of Chaos thugs to fill out the warband, while Sebassis and his apprentice are Chaos sorcerers. The apprentice had the top of his staff chopped off (and saved for another conversion), and replaced with a green stuff orb. I like the subservient pose he's got, but I couldn't have him with a more impressive staff than his master. The rest of the warband are more or less stock, with a little chopping here and there. I think the knight, Vigo the Cruel, is an old Chaos Warrior, but not sure on the range (still Citadel though). He had a slung shield added to his back, so I could match the equipment for his type.

I've got a pretty vast collection of daemonic gribblies to use for summoned creatures or random encounters, but that's for another day...

We captured it for Chaos: The whole rotten lot!

Greetings all.

Once again I've done that thing where I don't post for ages... I'm planning to get out of that bad habit, even if it means posting a lot more WIP stuff (which might go down well actually, we shall see).

Today I have a few completed bits to show you. I've finally finished off the cultists that I started over a year ago...

The final member of the Brotherhood of Forlorn Hope is their leader, "Flaky" Sal:

He's built from an old school Jes Goodwin Nurgle champion, with a small amount of conversion work. Firstly I needed him to carry an autopistol, so off came the sword to be replaced with a pistol from the excellent plastic cultist kit.

I also wanted him to be a bit less Nurgle, so removed the mark of Nurgle from his forehead, and did a little green stuff work to make him seem less decayed, but still degenerate.

Here he is leading the cult to glory in the eyes of the true gods:

Painting all these guys was a real grind tbh, but I'm really pleased with how they turned out, both in terms of conversion work, and painting. They'll mostly be used in 40k, but I suspect they'll find their way into a few games of Rogue Trader as generic mutants (or possibly with a backstory of their own actually).

As a reminder, I was originally inspired by this image of Chaos Cultists:

Definitely what they should be like in my opinion.

Comments are most welcome!

Long overdue post: A Rogue Trader skirmish!

Greetings all.

I had intended to post this aaaages ago, but real life has a habit of getting in the way, and that's just what happened!

About a month ago, my good buddy Alex (go to his blog, do it now!) and I had a little RT skirmish. We pitched his salvage crew against my beastmen, and let battle commence. We went with a simple premise: Alex's lads were attempting to retrieve some technical data from a panel in the centre of the board, while my beastmen were attempting to prevent them doing so by sabotaging the panel. Sounds straightforward enough. However, to make things a little more interesting, the panel was in the middle of an inhabited area, populated with civilians that would get in the way of the action. Oh yeh and there was a certain clockwork guardian protecting the panel: the fabled Tick-Tock man!

Since its been so long, I can't really remember the details of the battle... So I'm afraid you'll have to make do with as many pictures as I can muster...

The stage is set
Beastmen advance cagily
Salvage agents do the same
The mysterious Tick-Tock Man stands inert
Salvage agents continue their careful advance

Seems like a good time to spread the Imperial Truth

The water seller goes about his business, apparently unaware of the carnage about to unfold around him...

Beastmen advance behind their human shields, the archaeologist and his short companion

The priests decide that Raqquill and Knossos would benefit from a dose of the Imperial Truth

Moments later, fearless battlefield reporter Rhonda Burgundy stops Knossos for comment. Raqquill is feeling a little camera shy and does a runner...

Meanwhile, the salvage crew take cover in the relative safety of some obviously explosive barrels.

Beastmen aren't a patient sort... Gug makes a break for the control panel, awakening the Tick-Tock Man. Whoops. This immediately results in a nasty case of flamer to the face.

The cameraman catches a stray bullet from a salvage agent across the board...

An angry mob assemble to deliver some vigilante justice to the shooter.

After trading shots, the beastmen and salvage crew decide to settle things with fisticuffs. An inebriated citizen also wanders into the melee, swinging wildly at anyone who gets in the way.

Knossos takes a dirtnap.

A displacer field transports a salvage agent out of the melee, and into the domain of the Tick-Tock Man...

...who doesn't like unwanted visitors.

Quality Imperial tech saves the day once more...

...but the Tick-Tock Man is relentless.

Cue epic boss battle.

The Imperial agent is teleported to safety, and treats Raqquill to a glowing ball of plasma.

After multiple turns of achieving nothing more than quite a loud noise, Moloch unleashes a torrent of heavy bolter shells into the Tick-Tock Man.

The Tick-Tock Man finally falls to plasma fire from the remaining salvage agents.

Gaxt seizes the opportunity to sabotage the console, before being riddled with bullets by the remaining crew.

Hope you enjoyed it fellas! I suppose you could call it a victory for the beastie boys, but it came at quite the cost...

We captured it for Chaos: Even more Chaos Cultists

Greetings all.

This will be a short post, as I have a long overdue write up of a Rogue Trader battle I had with my good buddy Alex last week.

Just a couple pics of some more cultists I finished off:

One old scavvy and one very old scavvy join the gang.

Enjoy!

We captured it for Chaos: More Chaos Cultists

Greetings all.

Just completed my second batch of cultists for The Brotherhood of Forlorn Hope. I'm using a quite eclectic mix of models for this bunch, and these guys are probably my favourites so far: two confrontation scavvies and a slightly converted scummer from Necromunda.

I painted them in the same scheme as the others, just varying it slightly to keep things interesting. Got three more of these guys to do, including a champion. They're taking forever to do, but I'm pretty pleased with them!

2015 in review

Greetings all.

It's the time of year where I look back over my progress and usually weep at the lack of it, but actually this year has been quite a productive one, hobby-wise.

My goal for this year was to paint 100 models, and I'm pleased to say that I've surpassed that target, with a total of 115! Not as many as some other bloggers that I've seen, but I'm satisfied.

Here's a run down of everything:

Phew! Doesn't look all that bad when I lay it all out like that!

I did also set myself the goal of playing 40 games this year, and that...didn't happen... I think I managed about 10 games in total. Not impressive. However, I was introduced to Rogue Trader, which was a blast!

Plans for 2016 are: paint even more models than this year, and play a bunch of games! On the table next are the rest of my Word Bearer cultists, and a second edition Orc blood bowl team... After that, my big project is to actually make some progress on my Khorne Daemonkin army!

A pretty good year for me, and looking forward to the next one!
